CITY OF EXETER - RECRUITMENT NOTICE
POSITION: The City of Exeter is recruiting for the position of Police Sergeant.
Under the general direction of Police management staff, performs a variety of routine and complex public safety work in the performance and administration of police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities. Exercises general supervision over police officers and other staff as assigned. A detailed job description is available and should be referred to for additional information.
A combination of education, experience, and training which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities can be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would include the following:
- High school diploma or acceptable equivalent;
- Completion of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic
- Minimum three years full-time work experience as a fully-commissioned Police Officer;
- An AA/AS degree or 60 semester college units from an accredited college or university;
Possession of a valid California Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any state;
Possession of P.O.S.T. Basic Course academy completion certificate; Possession of P.O.S.T. Basic and Intermediate Certificates.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Compensation: This classification is compensated on a five-step salary range from $5,064 to
$6,134 per month. Various specialty and/or incentive pays may also apply.
Retirement: The City of Exeter is a member of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). New Police Officers are covered under the 2.7% at 57 plan. Employees with previous PERS qualifying service and meet the criteria of “Classic employees” may fall under the 3% at 55 plan.
Health Insurance: The City provides employee health insurance which includes medical and a self-funded/self-administered dental/vision care plan. Employee Health benefits are subject to an employee-paid contribution.
Sick Leave: All regular employees, upon completion of one (1) month of continuous service, shall be eligible to utilize sick leave with pay. Sick leave is accumulated at a rate of 8.00 hours per month.
Vacation: All regular employees, upon the completion of one year of continuous service, shall be eligible to utilize vacation leave. Vacation is accrued based on the years of service.
Holidays: Sworn police personnel are eligible for paid holidays or are compensated for schedules that require working on holidays.
